2026-2027 Student Advocacy Fellows Start the Year Off Strong

This is the 10th cohort of Rise Up for REPRO student advocates

The Rise Up For REPRO Student Advocacy Fellowship kicked off its tenth cohort of student advocates with a virtual orientation at the beginning of the school year, followed by tabling and chalking events on campuses across the Commonwealth.

Despite the quick turnaround, the students rose to the occasion and planned campus-specific events meant to educate students on the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom and the upcoming election on November 3!

After the organizing exercise on campus, students gathered in Northern Virginia a week later to tour a clinic providing abortion care. They learned about the safe, compassionate care patients receive at the clinic and asked insightful and empathetic questions about procedures, current law, and how we could better support everyone involved.

Their questions were thoughtful and nuanced and really showed the depth of the students’ understanding of the reproductive healthcare landscape in Virginia.

After leaving the clinic they put together hundreds of repro care packages to hand out on campus. Condoms and over-the-counter birth control pills for everyone (who wants them)! Student fellows spent their Sunday afternoon at a canvass, seeing first-hand how to run a canvass launch and then knocking on doors and talking to voters about the constitutional amendment.

This knowledge will be followed by trainings focused on organizing, messaging, education, and how to use platforms like Mobilize, and it will all culminate in fellows putting together their own campus canvassing events in just a few short weeks! (Be on the lookout for pictures!)

Student advocates are already showing tremendous initiative and leadership in the work they have completed so far in their program, and we’re excited to see what else they come up with!
