Alexandria, VA – REPRO Rising Virginia PAC, the political action arm of the reproductive rights policy and advocacy organization, is proud to give its support and endorsement to former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger to be the next Governor of Virginia.

Congresswoman Spanberger is an enthusiastic champion and fighter for reproductive health and rights. She profoundly understands the gravity of the moment and says the passage of the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom is her top priority. During her time in Congress, Congresswoman Spanberger co-sponsored multiple abortion and contraception rights and access legislation including the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Right to Contraception Act.

Spanberger is the antithesis of her opponent, Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, who is overtly antagonistic towards the right to abortion, birth control and the full range of reproductive healthcare. Sears has been vocal in her opposition to abortion rights and even took the unprecedented step in her role as lieutenant governor and president of the state Senate to add a comment that she was “morally opposed” to the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom which would guarantee the right to abortion, birth control, fertility treatment, pre and postnatal care, and miscarriage management.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in the 2022 Dobbs decision, Virginia has increasingly become a refuge for thousands of patients seeking legal access to abortion care who live in states that have now banned the healthcare procedure.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, the number of out of state abortion patients coming to Virginia doubled between 2023 and 2024. Virginia is now the only state in the South that has not passed a post-Roe abortion ban.

“In a time when our country is in chaos, and our fundamental freedoms are being stripped away, Virginia needs a leader who will not back down from a fight.

REPRO Rising Virginia is honored to stand behind Congresswoman Spanberger’s bid to be Virginia’s next Governor. Not only is she an outspoken advocate for abortion rights and access, but she also brings an intimate understanding of the need to fight for reproductive freedom to the job as the Commonwealth’s first woman governor,” said Tarina Keene, Executive Director of REPRO Rising Virginia.

Congresswoman Spanberger has been an outspoken advocate for reproductive rights during her time in Congress, and we know she’ll fight just as hard to protect those same rights as the next Governor of Virginia. At this consequential time when many legislatures are rolling back the rights of pregnant people, Congresswoman Spanberger is committed to keeping the Commonwealth a refuge in the South for those seeking access to safe, legal, and affordable abortion care and will work to ensure the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom passes in 2026.”

“In the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, I’ve heard from Virginians across the Commonwealth who are deeply alarmed by extreme politicians in Virginia and across the country threatening the future of reproductive rights,” said Congresswoman Spanberger. “Virginians deserve leaders who will take real action to defend Virginians’ rights, not impose an extreme agenda on families across our Commonwealth. As Governor, I will sign legislation protecting Virginians’ access to birth control and contraception, support the effort to enshrine reproductive freedom in the Virginia Constitution, and prevent politicians from dictating Virginians’ personal healthcare decisions.”

Congresswoman Spanberger joins ticket mates State Senator Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor and former State Delegate Jay Jones for Attorney General, who were endorsed earlier in the election cycle.

REPRO Rising Virginia has a robust field campaign underway in four regions across the Commonwealth that includes canvasses, phone and text banks, as well as digital ad campaigns in support of its slate of endorsed candidates.
