Richmond, VA – Virginians have spoken! After years of advocacy, the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom has been voted on and approved by a majority of Virginia voters and is secured in the state constitution.

Virginians from every corner of the Commonwealth came together to knock on doors, make phone calls, and talk to their friends and neighbors about the importance of lasting protections for reproductive healthcare; ensuring passage of the amendment in the last state in the South without post-Roe restrictions. Abortion, birth control, fertility treatment, pre-natal care, childbirth, miscarriage management, and post-partum care will no longer be vulnerable to partisan attacks in every election cycle.

“Here in the Commonwealth, Virginians showed the nation just how much we value reproductive freedom for ourselves and future generations. Virginians believe bodily autonomy is a fundamental right and we do not want politicians interfering in our personal lives,” said Tarina Keene, Executive Director of REPRO Rising Virginia. “And now our real work begins, to ensure the constitutional amendment fulfills its promise – that every Virginian, in every corner of the Commonwealth and regardless of how much money they make, can access the critical reproductive healthcare they need when they need it. We are just getting started!”

REPRO Rising Virginia will continue this critical work through implementation of the Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom and advocating for legislation to expand affordability and access to all aspects of reproductive healthcare in the Commonwealth.
