Statement from REPRO Rising Virginia on President Joe Biden Withdraw of Presidential Nomination
June 21st 2024
Today, President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw his presidential nomination. This is a courageous decision by the President and a significant moment and opportunity for our nation.
In the two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and stripped Americans of their right to abortion, millions of people have been forced to travel for care after multiple states passed abortion bans and severe restrictions that pushed abortion care out of reach. The consequences of the lack of reproductive healthcare protection at the federal level have had devastating ripple effects throughout our country. The next Democratic nominee must be a candidate who puts the protection and expansion of reproductive rights and access to healthcare at the forefront of their campaign.
REPRO Rising Virginia is urging the nomination of a candidate who intimately understands and fights for the importance of protecting bodily autonomy. We need a candidate who believes that abortion is healthcare, a fundamental human right, and that everyone deserves access to the care they need when they need it. We need a candidate that energizes our diverse movement and will help secure a reproductive freedom majority in the House of Representatives and hold the Senate.
REPRO Rising Virginia remains steadfast in our mission to protect and advance reproductive freedom. We will continue to champion policies and leaders who share our vision for a future where everyone can make decisions about their own bodies free from political interference. The fight is and always has been in the states, but we now have an opportunity to gain the protections we need at the federal level.
