REPRO Rising Virginia PAC Announces First Round of Candidate Endorsements for the Virginia 2023 Primary Election

We are proud to announce our first round of endorsements for the Virginia 2023 primary elections!

Today, REPRO Rising Virginia PAC, the political action arm of the reproductive rights policy and advocacy organization, announced its first round of endorsements for the Virginia 2023 primary elections. This day marks the one-year anniversary of the leaked SCOTUS decision on the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, which is a powerful reminder of how critical it is to elect Reproductive Freedom champions that will remain vigilant and committed while serving in the Virginia General Assembly.

REPRO Rising Virginia endorsed candidates undergo a rigorous vetting process and are selected based on numerous factors, including their commitment to protecting and advancing every Virginian’s right to abortion and access to the full range of reproductive healthcare. See the full list of endorsed candidates below.

  • SD11, Sen. Creigh Deeds

  • SD18, Sen. Louise Lucas

  • SD31, Russet Perry

  • SD32, Del. Suhas Subramanyam

  • SD36, Sen. George Barker

  • SD37, Saddam Salim

  • SD40, Sen. Barbara Favola

  •  HD2, Adele McClure

  • Steve Descano for Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney

“For more than a decade, Virginia has been a battleground state for reproductive rights and freedom. During that time, we have made great strides towards increasing access to the healthcare that Virginians deserve. However, circumstances have drastically changed. With only one vote standing between abortion being legal or banned in the Commonwealth, this Virginia General Assembly election year is critical to the future of reproductive freedom. Receiving an endorsement from REPRO Rising Virginia is an indication that a candidate will stop at nothing to ensure that Virginians can count on them to fiercely protect and expand their access to the full range of reproductive healthcare, including abortion,” stated Executive Director Tarina Keene.

“Each candidate that we’re endorsing today not only demonstrates a clear understanding of and commitment to the protection and expansion of reproductive freedom across the Commonwealth but are centering abortion access in their campaigns in a way Virginia’s voters deserve. Our team is thrilled to support these candidates on their paths to office and to work with them as thought partners every step of the way,” said Hannah Servedio, Political Manager of REPRO Rising Virginia.

Virginians are fortunate to have an abundance of committed candidates who support reproductive freedom to choose from this cycle. Even though receiving a 100% score on our candidate questionnaire is not the only factor we considered for endorsement, below are the primary candidates who did so within the races we have screened. We are certain, if these candidates prevail in their primaries, they too will prioritize and fight to protect and advance reproductive rights and freedom in the Commonwealth.

  • SD11 – Delegate Sally Hudson
  • SD18 – Senator Lionell Spruill
  • SD31 – Zack Cummings
  • SD35 – Stella Pekarsky
